Bal’s story

Balchand was born on a sugar estate in Albion, Guyana on 19th April 1930. His birth certificate bears the name Sahadeo but the name Balchand (Bal) was adopted at an early stage and was used for the rest of his life. 

In 1951 Bal met Ernestine and they were married in March 1952. They remained in Albion until moving to Stanleytown in 1960 where Bal enjoyed working on his much loved citrus plantation. Bal & Ernestine  and their 5 daughters Barbara, Anne, Carol, Ramona & Geeta emigrated to England in 1964, in 1966 their last daughter Pamela was born.

Bal worked for KKL executor and trustees company for 28 years until his retirement in 1993, working as an accountant and company secretary.

During Bal’s working years the family lived in London and Essex, after his retirement Bal & Ernestine moved to Buckingham in 1999.
